Tina Turner’s cause of death has been revealed one day after her passing.
Reps for the music icon told the Daily Mail on Thursday that the 83-year-old died from “natural causes.”
Turner died on May 24 at her $76 million mansion in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. Her rep previously revealed that she had been battling a “long illness” but did not disclose further details.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” the spokesperson said in a statement on Instagram at the time.
Turner struggled with numerous health issues including high blood pressure for over four decades. In 2013, the Grammy winner suffered from a stroke three weeks after she tied the knot with husband Erwin Bach. She also battled with kidney disease and received a kidney from Bach in 2017. A year earlier she was diagnosed with intestinal cancer.
She revealed in her memoir that she signed up to an assisted suicide organization as she mentally prepared herself for the possibility of dying.
Good friends Oprah Winfrey and Cher both revealed that Turner told them she was ready to die.
“I was certainly aware that she was ill but I had seen her in 2019 and gone to visit her in the hospital and she had said to me then that she was actually ready to go, meaning, ready to leave the planet,” Winfrey said on Thursday’s broadcast of “CBS Mornings.”
“I expected then that was going to be the last time that I saw her.”
“She fought this sickness for such a long time and she was so strong as you think she would be,” Cher, said Thursday when calling into MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber.”
“But I know towards the end, she told me once, she said, ‘I’m really ready. I just don’t want to put up with this anymore.’”
Turner is survived by two of her four sons – two preceded her in death – and her 67-year-old husband, Erwin Bach.
